BLUEBIRD ESPRESSO CAFE Collingwood
BUSINESS Detail
BUSINESS DESCRIPTION
On the still industrial inner-city side of Johnston Street, between Smith Street and Hoddle Street, you’ll come across Bluebird Espresso, one of the few welcome sights in the stretched out expanse of Collingwood’s yesteryear traders.
Bluebird’s format of old-shopfront-turned-cafe exceeds the mere design trend that most cafes adopt; rather, it feels more like Bluebird’s owner decided to remove the outermost wall of his kitchen for Collingwood’s locals to stop awhile. It’s not hard to feel this way when fronted with the good stuff: genuine staff, organic bread from Noisette, Proud Mary coffee, selected produce from Victoria Market, and the rest from Istra Small-goods in the Yarra Valley.
The simple yet constantly changing menu might feature poached eggs with mushrooms, spinach and feta on multigrain sourdough, made more special with the addition of homemade pistachio dukkah. On the sweeter side, a variation of Elvis Presley’s favourite sandwich is also on the menu, involving peanut butter, banana, honey and pancetta between toasted white bread.
